On October 29, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., Boston College is hosting an online panel session focused on Dr. Ken Melchin’s Insight Studies. Dr. Melchin will be joined by two scholars who have used the book as a university course text, Dr. Roberto De La Noval and Dr. Paul LaChance.

All are welcome to this free online presentation!

Kenneth Melchin is Emeritus Professor, Faculty of Theology, and Senior Research Associate, Lonergan Centre at Saint Paul University, Ottawa. His latest book, Insight Studies: A Practice-Based Approach to Self-Knowledge and Critical Thinking, offers a novel way of teaching and learning what Lonergan scholars call “self-appropriation.”

Instead of presenting self-knowledge and critical thinking as a set of ideas to be learned through the standard methods of reading, class lectures, essays, and exams, they are presented as a set of skills to be learned through daily practice. The design of the book’s nine Learning Modules is similar to the approach used in learning a musical instrument: carefully constructed exercises to be practiced daily and sequenced so that later skills build on earlier skills.

Please address registration questions to the host, Mary Elliot, at bclonergan@gmail.com.
