Theology at Saint Paul University

In a world and Church facing multiple crises, theology today is called to be engaged and prophetic. A main task for theology of is to interpret Christian tradition in ways that is relevant to the deep longings of humanity and the pressing questions of our time. Dialogue among cultures and religions, ecology, social justice, reconciliation among people–especially with Indigenous Peoples, the failed human responsibility to care of the environment, poverty, migration, violence and peace, are only a few among the many areas that raise compelling theological questions and call on theology to rethink its traditional ways.

Hospitable to students from all Christian denominations and other traditions, socially engaged, and interdisciplinary, the Faculty of Theology offers programs for students pursuing graduate academic research as well as undergraduates and those preparing for ministry in their faith communities, and those interested in academic reflection on their personal faith.

Professors and students at the Faculty of Theology engage a broad range of topics and research areas, which include ethics, spirituality, practical theology, biblical studies, Catholic bioethics, interreligious dialogue, liturgical studies, contextual theology, and systematic and historical theology, in conversation with their life experiences.

The option of studying theology in either or both French and English is a particular richness of our Faculty. Our graduate programs (MA and PhD) are available in both languages. At the undergraduate level (BA, MTS, MDiv), English is required to complete a degree program. The faculty is striving to offer an undergraduate program fully in French.

All degrees are awarded by the Senates of both Saint Paul University and the University of Ottawa.
