Instructions for Liturgical Participants
Detailed instructions for coordinating Morning Prayer and for coordinating and assisting at the weekly Eucharist can be found in the Customary, which can be viewed by clicking here. To download it, right-click and select “Save target as …”
R.M.L.I.D. — The Customary contains a great deal of important information for students involved in the liturgical life of the community. Please download it, print it, meditate upon it, and, in the words of the Book of Common Prayer, “read, mark, learn and inwardly digest”.
At all celebrations of the Anglican Community, it is our practice that the presider chant the collect. For information on singing the collect, click here.
Bread recipes
Recipe A
- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat bread flour
- 3/4 cup white bread flour
- 3/4 heaping teaspoon baking soda
- 2 heaping tablespoons of shortening at room temperature
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup of cold water
- 3 tablespoons of honey
Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Mix the flour, soda and salt thoroughly. Add the shortening. Blend by hand very well. Add the water and honey. Knead the dough until it achieves a light fluffy texture. Divide the dough into four loaves (three small and one large). Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until the loaves are firm to the touch.
Recipe B
- 3 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 egg yolk
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 1/3 cup honey
- 3/4 to 1 cup lukewarm water
- pinch of salt
Add the egg yolk and oil to the flour and salt and blend thoroughly (works best using fingers). Add the honey and blend thoroughly. Add the water in small doses, continually kneading to make sure the texture remains even. (The exact amount of water should be determined by the wetness of the dough; don’t let it get too sticky. If it does, add a little extra flour.) Separate the dough into three smaller and one larger rolls. Flatten each into a patty shape approximately 5/8 to 3/4 inch thick, and bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 12 minutes. Turn them over and continue baking for another 9 or 10 minutes. Since you have one more loaf than needed, you can test one of the smaller ones to determine if further baking is needed.
Suffering exam stress?
There’s nothing quite like the pressure of exams, papers, studying and general theological head-bending to make a student feel stressed out. Perhaps you feel like Saul, King of Israel, who felt himself stretched in several directions at once. In his distress, he was comforted by the youth David, who played the harp for him.
When George Frideric Handel set the story of Saul to music in 1738, he naturally included a harp solo. It’s a very beautiful piece, and one that is sure to help reduce brain strain and the general pressure of life.
