The role of Ombuds in preventing, managing and resolving disputes

NOVEMBER 14,2025

1PM-4PM

Saint-Paul University – G1143 Room

The role of ombuds is to help protect citizens, employees, customers and users of various organisations from abuse, error and negligence that may adversely affect them. Ombuds, therefore, have an important role to play in conflict prevention, management and resolution systems. Many of our Conflict Studies students are preparing for this role, which requires preparation in active listening, conciliation, and mediation.

In this workshop, Professor Epperson, a recognised expert and ombuds practitioner, will share with you the extraordinary development of ombuds work around the world, giving several examples.
He will show how ombuds interact with other formal and informal instruments of conflict resolution.
He will describe how students can prepare to enter this field or pursue advanced research on the role of ombuds offices.

Registration required: Please confirm your attendance with Ms. Yasamin Ghorbankhani at the following address: yghor092@uottawa.ca
Only registered participants will receive a certificate of participation.

Language: Workshop offered in French (questions in English are welcome).

This event is brought to you by the Centre for Informal Dispute Resolution (CIDR) at Saint Paul University.
