Since the end of World War II, the number of people crossing international borders has continued to increase. Over the past decades, the forms and motives behind these migrations have become more diverse. The main destination countries have also become more divers, and immigration issues are now central to political and social debates in many countries. This presentation aims to take an overview of the situation and identify the main root causes, while focusing on the vulnerabilities of migrant populations and the prospects for protecting their rights and dignity.
