Mission statement
The mission of the Research Chair for Religious History of Canada (RCRHC) is to promote and facilitate research in the field of Canadian religious history, including developing research instruments that could be useful to researchers who specialize in this field and by organizing gatherings allowing researchers to share the results of their research or to collaborate in view of future research in areas that have not been explored in depth.
Objectives
As a research authority, the role of the Research Chair for Religious History of Canada includes:
- promoting, coordinating and, as needed, supporting research projects in the field of Canadian religious history.
- developing research instruments that could be useful to researchers working in this area.
- making known to as wide an audience as possible the results of this research.
In summary, the Research Chair for Religious History of Canada aims to make known the religious past of Canada and help people fully appreciate it.
Administration
The Chair is under the authority of the Vice Rector, Academic and Research. Its administrative structure includes the holder of the Chair and a secretary.

Activities
Currently, the main activities of the Chair consist of the following:
- putting online the inventory of documents of Canadian significance from the archives and libraries of Rome, carried out between 1977 and 2009 by the Research Centre for Religious History of Canada
- preparing biographical information to update the second edition (2012) of the Dictionnaire biographique des évêques catholiques du Canada
- establishing a history project on Oblate missions with First Nations peoples.
