Saint Paul University is proud to announce that its Rector, Dr. Louis Patrick Leroux, has been elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) within the Academy of Arts and Humanities.
Dr. Leroux is the second SPU rector to be appointed to the Royal Society of Canada. The late Fr. Pierre Hurtubise – who served as rector from 1985 to 1994 – was a recognized historian of the Catholic Church and was elected as a Fellow of the RSC in 1987.
Nominated by his peers in academia, this fellowship is a prestigious recognition of Dr. Leroux’s extensive contributions to theatre, research and research-creation in Canada and abroad.
“I am truly honoured to be recognized by my peers for my scholarly and creative work,” shared Dr. Leroux. “I am proud to share this recognition with the entire SPU community and to continue championing the innovative and essential research that is being done within our university.”
As outlined in his official nomination, Dr. Leroux is a researcher, creator, author and highly regarded lecturer in Canada and internationally whose prolific body of work encompasses both scholarly texts and creative writing. His groundbreaking work on research-creation and theatre has won awards and his seminal work on Quebec circus and the global contemporary circus has established him as a leading figure in the field of circus studies.
Dr. Leroux has been affiliated with the RSC since 2017 when he was inducted into its College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists and was an active member of the RSC’s International Committee.
