Library Technician | Jean-Léon-Allie Library and Archives

What is your title and how long have you been at Saint Paul University?

Library Technician. I have been working here for 22 years.

What does your work consist of?

I’m in customer service. I answer reference, technical (e.g. regarding computers and photocopiers), and directional questions. I also handle book loans and returns at the service desk and do small book repairs when needed.

What is your academic/professional training?

I have a diploma in Library and Information Technology.

Can you tell us an interesting fact about yourself?

I like camping and travelling, and I’m a member of my local camping and RV club. My husband and I take our RV a dozen times every year to go camping in various areas of Québec, Ontario, and sometimes the United States. We’re gone almost every weekend from May to early October, and during summer vacation.

What do you like most about the Library?

The Library is a meeting place for people from all walks of life. These interactions are very rewarding because they allow all of us to share our experiences and expertise with others.

What tip would you give our students?

Always save a copy of your documents to a USB flash drive or in an email if you’re using the Library’s computers! This is crucial because any document saved on a public computer automatically gets deleted when it restarts.

Can you tell us about an interesting fact about the Library?

It’s great to see how many digital books and documents we have now, because it means they can be consulted from anywhere.
