Profile

Professor Gunter’s research work is largely focused on the power of culture. In other words, how is culture (in its many artistic forms) used, managed, circulated, and created by people. Currently, Prof. Gunter is a co-researcher on a federally funded project exploring the changing landscape of cultural accountability in arts financing for Francophone minority artists. Similarly, Prof. Gunter’s work and involvement in the underground DIY music scene has led to a collaborative project documenting the Canadian underground music scene and its implications for social innovation and emancipation.

Prof. Gunter is the current director of the Cultural Policy Network (https://www.culturalpolicynetwork.org/), and the Co-editor and manager of the Journal Culture and Local Governance (https://uottawa.scholarsportal.info/ottawa/index.php/clg-cgl/).
