Program description

Why should I choose this program?

This B.A. invites you to explore crucial ecological and social issues to build a brighter future together. Every part of society – economy, forestry, energy, food and water security – is becoming concerned about environmental sustainability. This program will give you insight into the complex relationships between the social, ecological, ethical and political aspects of climate change and environmental degradation. You will develop innovative solutions and build positive pathways for a more hopeful future with your professors and colleagues.

At Saint Paul University, you will experience a strong sense of community through our small classes and approachable professors. Our program is designed to be engaging and dynamic, incorporating case studies, art, guest speakers, and project-based learning. We encourage transformative learning experiences based on critical and systemic thinking, personal growth, and creativity. A highlight of this program is the internship: an opportunity to put your knowledge into practice in a workplace or community setting.

What will I learn?

Learn to facilitate and collaborate. Effective leadership is all about embracing ethical practices, creating inclusive spaces, driving systemic change, and crafting innovative strategies for eco-social transformation. Our program focuses on building vibrant communities and nurturing self-aware leaders who can rally resources, empower others to grow their skills, and enhance well-being for everyone in the community and the natural world.

Enhance your understanding of the environment. Embracing the ecological transition means gaining insights into climate change, biodiversity challenges, and the restoration of our planet through a holistic approach to ecology. Throughout this program, you will explore concepts of eco-justice, Earth-centric spiritualities, and the connections between humans and nature. You will discover how the natural world nurtures, inspires, and enriches every aspect of life.

Become an eco-justice change agent. The challenges of climate change, poverty, and social injustices are all interconnected with our efforts to promote ecological stability and sustainability. In this program, you will learn how to identify systems based on domination, such as environmental racism, and explore ways to support movements for change aim for eco-social transformation.

Who should apply?

Would you like to be a socially engaged citizen? Can you help find creative ways to address the ecological crisis? Is advocating for equity and envisioning a vibrant future something you care about? If any of this sounds appealing, then this program is for you!
