A message on Pope Francis' visit to Canada

Press releases

Thursday, July 21, 2022

Below, Chantal Beauvais, Rector of Saint Paul University, shares a message in anticipation of Pope Francis’ visit to Canada.

This Sunday, Pope Francis will begin his visit to Canada and fulfill the promise he made in his apology to Indigenous delegates earlier this year: to continue the healing and reconciliation journey with First Nations, Métis and Inuit on the land that is their home.

The theme of the upcoming visit is Walking Together. It is an apt theme for the continuation of the Church’s journey toward truth, building trust and reconciliation with survivors of residential schools, their families and descendants, and their communities.

First and foremost, I pray that this visit will offer hope and healing for all those who have been impacted by the residential school system. I also hope that this is a fruitful week of listening, learning and reflection for the Church, Catholics and all Canadians.
