Sustainable and inclusive societies require innovative approaches to diversity and human connections. The Community Engagement Option offers an opportunity to understand and respond effectively to the various needs of communities.

In these courses, students acquire conceptual and practical skills to understand and value diversity in community contexts. These skills respond to critical contemporary concerns for collective well-being.

Courses

HUM2111 Worldviews, Communities and Cultures (3u)

Significance and scope of worldviews and values in shaping communities. Diversity of cultural expressions and their role in community development.

HUM2114 Community Engagement and Creative Spaces (3u)

Introduction to interdisciplinary perspectives on the role and shaping of creative spaces in community practises. The diversity of inner spaces and outer environments involved in sustainable community engagement.

HUM2115 Psychology of Community Dynamics (3u)

Analysis of conscious and unconscious dynamics in community settings, using a range of psychological, sociological and ethical perspectives.

HUM3112 Resilience in Community Practice (3u)

Creative dynamics of resilience and failure in individual and community practises, using case studies and practice-based projects.

HUM3120 Power of Collective Imagination (3u)

Emergence of individual and collective stories of identity in communities, and the enactment of these identities in community development, especially through rituals and processes such as storytelling and mythologizing.
