IS ANARCHY WITHOUT MEDIATION POSSIBLE?
Francis Dupuis-Déri and Julie Paquette will be discussing the book
THE PEOPLE'S FEAR, AGORAPHOBY AND AGORAPHILY POLITICS, by FRANCIS DUPUIS-DRI (LUX, 2016)

SPONTANEISM OR PROCEDURALISM? Francis Dupuis-Déri seems to navigate between two poles: that of the plebs of revolutionary tendency, privileging instantaneous reports, as some crypto-anarchists formulated, more libertarian than libertarian, and that of the demos, more proceduralist. The first pole often suffers the reproach of the critics of anarchism for which a subject does not propose any policy when its demands are rooted in self-foundation and spontaneity. Against such detractors, the whole point of Dupuis-Déri's book lies in its emphasis on how the immediacy of certain social movements, the "spontaneity of certain collective mobilizations" is rather "apparent" since it is most often the result of assemblies subject to "procedures [which] are, in part, the result of decades of struggle". In the end, the book shows that it is a tension between assemblist and insurrectionist positions. Dupuis-Deri, failing to decide, seems to favour the diversity of tactics. The continuation in discussion on November 29.
