PSY 2174 - Research Methods and Ethics
Methodology and ethics of research. Research protocol. Experimental and non-experimental designs. Documentation. Writing style.
Prerequisites: PSY1101, PSY1102. For students registered in the Major, Joint Honours and the Honours with specialization Psychology programs, this course is not equivalent to CMN2101, CRM2303, ECS2111, FEM2105, POL2156, SCS2150, SOC2111 (Previously: PSY4174)

PSY 2106 - Quantitative Methods in Psychology I
Descriptive statistics: frequency distributions, measures of central tendency and variability, normal curve, correlation and regression. Introduction to inferential statistics: hypothesis testing, T test and chi-square. Application to psychology. Leads into PSY2116.
Prerequisites: PSY1101, PSY1102. Reserved for the students registered in the Major, Joint Honours and the Honours with specialization in psychology programs.

IPA 2522 - Méthodes de recherche et éthique en sciences humaines (approche qualitative)
Introduction à la philosophie des sciences et à l’épistémologie. Éthique de la recherche. La création d’un plan de recherche : questions, hypothèses, variables, données et méthodes d’analyse. Les méthodes documentaires et qualitatives : la recherche bibliographique, la recherche historique, l’entrevue, l’étude de cas, l’observation. Problèmes spécifiques de l’étude des conflits ethniques et religieux ainsi que des relations humaines et spiritualité.
Préalables : 30 crédits universitaires (sauf pour les étudiants dans le Certificat en relations humaines et spiritualité) et IPA1521.
Préalable ou concomitant : IPA1522.

IPA 5531 - Méthodologie de la recherche empirique
Ce cours permet à l’étudiant d’acquérir les habiletés requises pour évaluer la recherche empirique dans les sciences humaines et appliquer ces habiletés aux projets de recherche ou à la thèse de maîtrise. On étudie les méthodes qualitatives et quantitatives utilisées pour recueillir et vérifier les données scientifiques: l’observation, les études de cas, les études évaluatives, les études expérimentales et de corrélations; la formulation de problématiques, de questions de recherche, d’hypothèses causales et non causales, de définitions opérationnelles et d’échantillons; de variables dépendantes, indépendantes, accessoires, choisies au hasard. Ce cours examine les problèmes d’éthique reliés à la recherche.

IPA 5131 - Methodology of Empirical Research
This course helps the students to develop skills for the critical evaluation of empirical research in the human sciences and the application of these skills in graduate research projects and theses. Qualitative and quantitative methods of gathering and validating scientific evidence in observation, case, evaluation, correlational and experimental studies. The formation of problems, structured questions, causal and non-causal hypotheses; operational definitions; dependent, extraneous and randomized variables; the selection of samples. Research ethics will be examined.
