Submit Your Choices in Lent
When you have made your selections, please prepare an e-mail to me at gjohnston@ustpaul.ca, using the categories shown below. I will respond within 24 hours.
Please note that the opening hymn should be of a sombre, penitential nature (try looking in the "Lent" or the "Penitence" sections of Common Praise). It should flow smoothly from the quiet confession and absolution of the Penitential Rite. It is not necessary that this hymn be related to the readings; its specific liturgical function is of primary importance.
When giving reasons for hymn selections, please explain why your particular hymn is suitable for that particular place in the liturgy (opener, gradual, preparation of gifts). Be sure to balance your theological thoughts with musical reflection and analysis.
Please indicate if there is something new that needs to be taught before the service.
