Sommaire

Through readings, lectures (presentations, videos and PowerPoints), class discussions, and assignments, students will engage in an introduction to the theoretical foundations of transformative leadership. Drawing on relevant historical and contemporary sources, students trace the evolution of various approaches, definitions and models of leadership. Particular themes discussed in this course include: agency, authenticity, power, practice and social change. The elements constituting creative and effective leadership in various settings are also discussed.

Objectifs
  • Develop a critical understanding of leadership theory and practice
  • Appreciate the variety of leadership approaches and identify their strengths and challenges
  • Analyze the intrinsic relationships between theory and practice and personal and societal transformation
  • Identify issues that impact on the creative and effective application of leadership in various settings
  • Articulate the theoretical foundations of transformative leadership
  • Recognize one’s own leadership preferences and capacities

  • Active participation in class discussion (face-to-face and online discussion forum): 25%
