Transformative Leadership and Spirituality

Study of approaches and methods of spirituality as a fundamental experience of lived faith and values for individuals and communities. Learning to lead from an articulated understanding of spirituality consistent with the student’s personally-defined values and the values of the organization in which the student works. The impact of spirituality on the student leader’s’ identity and practice.

Sommaire

This course examines interdisciplinary approaches to and perspectives of spirituality as a foundational aspect of human development and transformative leadership. Through readings, lectures, class discussions, and assignments, students will explore the structure and function of spirituality in processes of personal and social transformation. Students will gain an appreciation of spirituality as a living system of ideas, values, practices and beliefs for individuals and communities. The course is designed to help strengthen the students’ capacity for leading from an articulated spiritual depth that is consistent with their personally defined values and that takes into account the values of the organizations in which they work. Specific attention will be given to the relationship between spirituality, creativity and emergence in sustainable and socially responsible innovation.

Objectifs
  • Examine interdisciplinary approaches and perspectives to spirituality as a foundational aspect of human development
  • Situate and analyze the role of spirituality in processes of transformation
  • Reflect on and critique on students’ personal approach to spirituality as it impacts on their own identity and practices as a leader
  • Identify and communicate the spiritual dimension of leadership in the generation of creative practices and solutions
Charge de travail
  • Regular class times (see schedule September 25th- 29th)
  • Active participation in class discussion (face-to-face and online discussion forum)
  • Assigned readings
  • Two Critical Reflection papers (5 pages each)
  • Class presentation
  • Final written assignment (12 pages)
Évaluation
  • Class participation (20%)
  • Two Critical Reflection Papers (first one – 10%, second one – 20%)
  • Class Presentation (10%)
  • Final Research Paper (40%)
