This program is offered in partnership between Kateri Native Ministry of Ottawa and Saint Paul University through the Providence School of Transformative Leadership and Spirituality and the Centre for Religious Education and Catechesis. The purpose of the program is to equip Indigenous people to exercise pastoral leadership and ministry in their local communities. Non-Indigenous people who serve or who would like to serve in Indigenous communities are also welcome to join us.
This five-day program is part of a three-year cycle of the “The Way of the Good Life” or Mino-bimaadiziwin through the themes of Belonging, Purpose and Direction. This year’s theme is “Purpose.” Participants register for the program one year at a time. All participants receive an attestation of their participation at the end of the week.
Participants have the option to register for 3-university credits. For more information, see the admission requirements and program requirements.

This program is for Indigenous people who are interested in education and faith formation for pastoral ministry. Non-Indigenous persons who are serving in Indigenous communities are also welcome to join us.
Participants can register for this Program in one of 2 ways.
The participants seeking this option will be expected to complete readings and assignments before and after the week of the program through distance learning. In order to receive these credits participant not currently enrolled at Saint Paul University will need to register as a special student.

IPA 2124 IPL Special topics in Human Relations and Spirituality I: Indigenous Pastoral leadership—Purpose (3 credits) Exploration and development of special topic in line with Indigenous pastoral leadership and spirituality. Focus on Mino-bimaadiziwin—the way of the good life through the theme of purpose.
Offered Spring/Summer 2021
The Program begins on Monday, July 27th at 8 a.m. and ends on Friday, July 31 at 2 p.m. Holding faith and culture, the program begins with two days on the land at Camp Naategamaa (Fitzroy Harbour) for experiences and teachings of traditional ceremonies. Participants will be bussed to the land and return to the University campus for dinner. These two days are followed by three days on the Saint Paul University campus in Ottawa. Throughout the week, participants explore connections between Indigenous spiritualities and Christian faith through ceremony, teachings, and conversation. Topics include faith and culture, community and church life, the Bible, and leading the community prayers. Certificates of attestation are given to participants who complete the week-long program.
Participants can also apply for 3 university undergrad credits. In addition to the practical and on the land experience, the participant of the credit option will further their learning through readings and exercises. The credit option will start online June 22 and finish on August 10, 2020. Participants must be present in Ottawa for the onsite week of July 27 to July 31, 2020.
This credited course could be of interest for people who are pursuing studies in various fields including ministry, human relations, pastoral care, community engagement, leadership.
It is not necessary to be a current student to register. Students from other post-secondary institutions are welcomed. Students not currently enrolled at Saint Paul University will need to register as a special student.
