Conference with Philippe de Grosbois: Pirate democracy and free Internet: promises and blind spots

The term "hacker" usually evokes a malicious intention to break a system to steal informations. However, hacktivists also use computers and Internet in order to democratize society, like in Iceland or the rebel cities in Spain. What is the hacker utopia, and the project of free Internet? What are the limits of these movements, and the ways to overcome them?

Philippe de Grosbois teaches sociology in Quebec cegeps since 2001. Member of À bâbord! journal since 2007, he wrote many articles on the social and political issues of the digital age. Labour activist, he is also the author of the essay « Les batailles d’Internet » published by Écosociété in 2018.

This conference will be presented in French only.
