Prevention of harassment, discrimination, sexual violence and violence in the workplace

Saint Paul University wishes to provide for all its members, whether they are students, faculty or support staff, an environment that is conductive to study, research and work. Such an environment, while allowing personal, human and intellectual growth, requires an atmosphere of trust and respect. Harassment, discrimination, sexual violence and violence in the workplace are unacceptable. The University has developed policies to deal with such cases, should they arise.

Rights of complainant and respondent

Every University employee and student has the right to file a complaint, without fear of reprisal or threats. Any person who is alleged to have engaged in harassment, discrimination or violence has the right to submit their version of events. The filing of a complaint against an individual does not in itself justify the taking of disciplinary measures against them.

If you feel you are a victim of harassment, discrimination, violence or sexual violence in the workplace

It is possible that clearly telling the person involved that their behaviour is hurtful and unacceptable is enough to stop the offences. However, if the behaviour continues or if you feel the need to meet with a resource person, you can contact Human Resources Services at extension 2831 or go to room LAF 160. They will tell you about the University’s policies1 regarding harassment, discrimination, violence and sexual violence, listen to you and offer you support throughout the process.

If you need immediate assistance, call 911 or call the University’s Protection Services at extension 5555 from a University telephone.

Each case will remain strictly confidential.
