A Catholic and bilingual (English and French) institution and an apostolate of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, Saint Paul University is dedicated primarily to an understanding of the integration of Christian Faith and life within a spirit of ecumenical openness. The Faculty of Theology of Saint Paul University invites applications for a full-time appointment at the rank of assistant professor or higher (depending on the successful candidate) for the position of Interim Director, Eastern Christian Studies. This position is offered as a 1-year renewable contract.


  • Teach three courses per year in Eastern Christian theology (first and second cycle);
  • In cooperation with the Dean of the Faculty, spearhead the renewal of Eastern Christian Studies programmes;
  • Administer these programmes;
  • Coordinate publicity and promotion for these programmes;
  • Assist with recruitment for these programmes;
  • Represent the Faculty of Theology to Eastern Christian parishes in the Ottawa-Gatineau area, and beyond;
  • Establish relationships with other Eastern Christian faculties of theology across North America;
  • Assure the availability of Eastern Christian liturgical worship;
  • Advise the Faculty’s Programmes Committee on issues relating to Eastern Christian Studies;
  • Participate as a member of the Faculty Council;

Experience :

  • Doctorate in Theology with a specialization in Eastern Christian theology;
  • Extensive teaching experience in Eastern Christian Studies;
  • An appreciation of the effort to restore unity among the Christian churches, and of the ecumenical character of the Faculty of Theology, its programs, and student community;
  • Proficiency in both official languages (English and French);
  • Knowledge of the Eastern Christian community and religious culture (both Catholic and Orthodox);

Salary: Salary and possibility of promotion according to the collective agreement between Saint Paul University and the Professors’ Association of Saint Paul University.

Starting date: July 1, 2017.
