Exploration of research methods in the fields of leadership, ecology and equity. Critical assessment of the frameworks and orientations of methods and their practical applications. Providing students with the tools to develop a thesis project.

Study of the interrelationship between nonviolence, peace and ecology in various contexts (e.g., creative, grassroots, social, political). Focus on the challenges that conflict, violence and peace pose for ethical action in the world. Explores current issues related to nonviolence, peace and ecological movements in dialogue with social justice frameworks.

Exploration of historical, ecological, cultural and religious worldviews and their implications for the development of leadership and communities. Analysis of social contexts, cultural perspectives, social change in contemporary global settings with reference to social justice frameworks and socio-historical structures.

Social and ecological challenges facing humanity today, and related issues of social justice. These questions will be examined from a perspective of community building and efforts towards ecological and social transformations for a hopeful future.

Social and philosophical theories of gender. Feminist theories of discrimination and power relations as they apply in conflict situations. Ethnic and religious factors in gender-related conflict issues. Constructive responses and social movements.

Prerequisites: ECS 2191 and ECS 2192. This course was previously ECS2125.

Tout conflit est vécu au niveau de la communauté locale, que sa source soit locale ou internationale. Ce cours identifie et analyse les différentes façons qu’ont les acteurs locaux et communautaires de comprendre et de réagir aux conflits violents ou non violents et à leurs conséquences.

Les défis sociaux et écologiques auxquels l’humanité doit faire face aujourd’hui, ainsi que les questions de justice sociale qui en découlent. Ces questions seront abordées dans une perspective de développement communautaire et d’efforts favorisant des transformations écologiques et sociales en vue d’un avenir plus prometteur.
