Christian duties to the care and protection of children and vulnerable persons are rooted in Jesus’ countercultural words and witness. In this reflection, we identify the principles of safeguarding; explore the nature of vulnerability; and review insights on the role of culture in abuse and neglect. We conclude with the need to develop a theology of childhood and promotion of resilience to adverse events.
