This talk will be an introduction to the practice and "how to" of Christian meditation and this ancient tradition of contemplative prayer. Paul Harris's talk will root this way of prayer in scripture, the prayer practice of the early Christian desert monks, the 13th-century Cloud of Unknowing, and the teaching of a 20th-century Benedictine monk, John Main (1926–1982). The talk will also highlight the emphasis in Christian meditation on simplicity, discipline, the universality of the practice, and the "delivery system" of Christian meditation in small groups of meditators who meet weekly to share the teaching and practice.

Paul Harris is the author/editor of seven books on Christian meditation and contemplative spirituality. He is a former Canadian coordinator of 250 weekly Christian meditation groups, and has travelled the world speaking on this way of prayer. Paul has three adult children, lives in Ottawa, and has a new book being published by Novalis in the Spring of 2018 entitled 30 Questions and Answers about Christian Meditation: The Path of Contemplative Prayer.
