Shane Parker is a rather unusual bishop: trained in sociology, theology and conflict resolution, he is not afraid of social sciences, pluralism and even… secularism. Acknowledging his privileged position as a White man in power, he offers a critical and lucid look at the Church he leads and the urgent need to address the pervasive influence of its colonial heritage, given that the Anglican Church was an essential cog in the wheel of the British imperial enterprise in Canada.

Building on that compelling positionality, this interview will explore issues such as: How can believers and non-believers alike participate in the way of truth and reconciliation in this land? How can we deal with the tensions and conflicts that may emerge as one tries to look honestly at the history of this country and its institutions? How can this be done in a way that builds a solid foundation for the future rather than increasing the polarizations already so prevalent? How can this reconciliation journey be part of a renewed (and humbler) understanding of the Christian faith?
