Saint Paul University Launches Two New Graduate Programs in Social Innovation and Transformative Leadership

OTTAWA (Ontario), Thursday, January 14, 2021 – The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities has approved the creation of the Doctorate in Social Innovation and the Graduate Diploma in Transformative Leadership and Spirituality. Both programs will begin in Fall 2021 and are currently accepting applications from prospective students.

Doctorate in Social Innovation

The first program of its kind in Canada, the Doctorate in Social Innovation provides a unique space for exploration and reflection to deepen fundamental research in social innovation and make substantial contributions to this interdisciplinary field.

"We are proud that our School is offering the first PhD in social innovation in Canada,” says Jamel Stambouli, Director of the Élisabeth-Bruyère School of Social Innovation. “With programs at all levels, Saint Paul University is now positioned to be a leader for social innovation education and research.”

This new doctorate allows students to acquire the latest conceptual tools and research opportunities that will enable them to analyze contemporary social problems, conceptualize structural changes and plan possible paths to achieve real social transformations.

"The possibilities for research on emancipation, social action, democratic management and innovative pedagogical approaches are immense and our faculty are well equipped to receive and mentor students who want to work on these cutting-edge issues,” says Stambouli.

The Élisabeth-Bruyère School of Social Innovation offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate programs, from undergraduate certificate to the PhD.

Graduate Diploma in Transformative Leadership and Spirituality

This new graduate diploma is designed as a professional development opportunity for established and emerging leaders. The program aims to helps participants enhance their practice and skills in leadership and social transformation.

“Professionals in this program will develop capacities for responsible and effective leadership to address the complex social issues of today,” says Miriam Martin, Director of the Providence School of Transformative Leadership and Spirituality.

The new graduate diploma was developed from the M.A. program and serves an introduction to transformative leadership.

“The teaching staff rely on innovative learning strategies that integrate the intellectual, spiritual, human, and professional dimensions of leadership,” explains Martin. “This integrative and reflexive approach is a distinctive feature of the Providence School and its programs.”

Students who complete the graduate diploma will also have the opportunity to have their credits recognized should they choose to enroll in the M.A. in Transformative Leadership and Spirituality.
