Saint Paul University Celebrates the Class of 2021!

OTTAWA, Wednesday, June 24, 2021 — Last Friday, Saint Paul University celebrated its 326 new graduates in a virtual celebration. This is the largest graduating class in the University’s history.

A small delegation of the University’s leadership hosted the ceremony, which was livestreamed for students, their families and the University community.

“We are so proud of our graduates! Their success is exceptional, considering the obstacles they have encountered along the way,” said Chantal Beauvais, rector of Saint Paul University. “So we celebrate and formally acknowledge their courage, dedication, professionalism and exceptional resilience as they completed their studies.”

A Resilient Generation

“I am happy to be part of the generation that cannot be stopped, the generation that just pushed through COVID-19, online classes and all kind of virtual exams to get their degree,” said Oreste. “We should applaud ourselves for persevering, for wanting more, and for wanting to become better.”Abigaïl Synthia Oreste, valedictorian for the class of 2021, echoed the Rector’s sentiments of resilience in her own speech to her peers.

Oreste is a graduate of the Honours B.A. in Social Communication.

A Personal Touch

While students and their families participated in the ceremony online, Saint Paul University took a creative approach to ensuring its graduates were prominently featured.

Graduates were encouraged to submit a photo of themselves to be included in the ceremony. Each seat in the Chapel featured the photo – or name – of a graduate. A slideshow featuring the photos also played as their names were called during the ceremony.

As for a lasting commemoration, a maple tree will be planted on the University grounds in honour the class of 2021.

The Governor General Academic Medals

Each year, Saint Paul University awards two graduates with the Governor General’s Academic Silver Medal and Gold Medal. These medals are awarded to the students who achieve the highest academic standing at the undergraduate and graduate level, respectively.

Thomas-Fionn Tran, who completed the Honours B.A. in Social Innovation, is the recipient of the Silver Medal.

The Gold Medal was awarded to Bruce Joseph Andrew Myers, a graduate of the Doctor of Ministry.

Congratulations to all of our graduates!
