Renewed relationship with Indigenous peoples

Saint Paul University pursues its commitment to renew its relationship with Indigenous peoples

In light of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, the report published by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, and the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, it is more important than ever that universities initiate a dialogue with First Nations, Métis and Inuit. We realize that we cannot change the future unless we first understand the past. We hope to establish a renewed relationship with Indigenous peoples, with the aim of rectifying past failures to walk together towards reconciliation.

To contribute to this transformation, the University is prepared to listen and to be open to change. It commits to

  • supporting First Nations, Métis and Inuit students and staff;
  • increasing awareness among the SPU community on living conditions of First Nations, Métis and Inuit; and
  • offering a university experience to all our students, in French and English, that takes First Peoples into account.

Saint Paul University wants to continue to forge ties with Indigenous people based on mutual trust and respect.
