For three weeks in October 2019, 175 Catholic bishops assembled in Rome for a Synod entitled “The Amazon: New Paths for the Church and for an Integral Ecology.” Less than a month later, Saint Paul University presented an honorary doctorate to one of the co-presidents of the Synod, Cardinal Pedro Barreto, SJ. Then, two weeks ago, Pope Francis released his Apostolic Exhortation “Querida Amazonia,” which summarizes his reflections from the Synod on ecology, Indigenous rights, and new roles for Christian ministry. The panel “Canadian Reflections on The Synod on the Amazon” will feature short presentations from professors who have closely monitored these events, followed by questions and dialogue with participants. All are welcome. Coffee, tea and cookies will be provided. This event will take place in English.
