Our professors: a source of pride

Dear colleagues,

Barely three months ago, you donned your academic hoods and gowns to celebrate, alongside your students, Convocation 2018. Recruitment and Communications Services used this opportunity to survey several students to find out what they had taken away from the years they spent at Saint Paul University.

At SPU, we firmly believe in the transformative power of encounter. Sometimes, all it takes is a professor who is especially empathetic or passionate to transform a student’s attitude, path or perspective. You are all part of this group of guides who have lighted the way through your teaching ‒ and your personality ‒ of the students within these walls.

This October 5, on World Teachers’ Day, we want to highlight the crucial role you play in our university and in the lives of so many students. You can be proud of this. Keep up the excellent work. Keep being the face of change, one course at a time.

What they told us…

“One of my professors has completely transformed my spiritual life.”

“One of my professors was very engaging. She guided me in my progress and helped me to develop my writing skills for university. Another professor supported my admission file, gave me valuable advice, encouraged me to do a master’s and encouraged me to think about options that were open to me at the end of my BA.”

“I liked all the professors. They are very well trained. … Saint Paul has truly become my family over the past three years. I developed many friendships with my peers and my professors.”

“I learned from all my professors, without exception. Some stood out, of course, no doubt because their subject especially interested me. But they all were excellent.”

“I particularly liked one of my professors. She has vast knowledge of her field and a rich experience, and she knows how to communicate her knowledge so well. I would have liked to take her other courses!”

“What is great at Saint Paul University is that the professors are accessible, and they are always giving us feedback.”

“I took three courses with the same professor: she is incredibly dynamic, and her courses are really interesting. Thanks to her generosity, I had an unforgettable experience and was able to develop my research and speech-writing skills. I took seven courses with another professor! I am so grateful to him. He is an excellent teacher and is amazingly available. He helped me so much!”
