New graduate diploma in Palliative Care at Saint Paul University

Saint Paul University is officially launching its new Diplôme d’études supérieures en accompagnement et spiritualité en soins palliatifs [Graduate Diploma: Supportive Care and Spirituality in Palliation], which will be offered as of September.

This program, the first of its kind in Ontario to be offered in French, is intended for those already working in the field: nurses, doctors, personal support workers, psychologists, psychotherapists, pastoral workers and volunteers. The program will equip these professionals for the end-of-life context, a reality that affects them in their daily work.

The courses offered will cover, among other topics, grief, ethics and the psychological and spiritual aspects of pain management.

“Death is not an ‘if,’ it’s a ‘when’. It’s time to lift the veil on this stage of life through a reflection inspired by psychology, ethics and spirituality. This kind of reflection, we hope, will allow those working in the field of palliative care to give meaning to their experience with people at the end of life,” says Judith Malette, full professor in the School of Counselling, Psychotherapy and Spirituality at Saint Paul University.

This program requires a bachelor’s degree. Admission scholarships are available.
