Lunch Bag Conference: Language Barriers to Intersubjectivity in Community Mediation
Wednesday, February 28th, 12:00 to 13:15, G-127
The Conflict Research Centre invites you to a lunch bag conference where Natalie Dupuis, a PhD candidate in Conflict Studies, will present her study.
This study seeks to explore the role of language barriers in the development or discovery of intersubjectivity between mediator(s) and disputants in a community mediation setting, particularly where the mediation takes place between parties with asymmetrical language skills. Drawing on the theories of language and intersubjectivity as developed by disciplines that are constitutive of mediation theories, this study intends to refine the notion of intersubjectivity as it relates to language in community mediation practice, where resources are scarce and access to translation/interpretor services is limited.
The conference will be given in English, with bilingual discussion.
