Library Services during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Last update: January 8, 2021, at 2:27 p.m.

Winter 2021

Please note:

  • An SPU ID card is required to access the library between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m.; once inside the library, patrons can remain there until midnight.
  • The service desk is closed until further notice.
  • Most services are only provided remotely (see below for details).

The library is dedicated to supporting its students and faculty during this time. To ensure the health and safety of staff and patrons alike, we are providing limited face-to-face assistance.

Research and Reference Help

Our librarians continue to offer one-on-one research and reference help through:

  • Phone meetings;
  • Zoom and Microsoft Teams virtual meetings;
  • Email.

Please contact the librarian in charge of your program:

Marta Samokishyn: Canon Law, Theology, Conflict Studies, Transformative Leadership, Counselling and Spirituality

Victoria Tsonos: Social Communication, Social Innovation, Philosophy and Public Ethics

Document Scanning

We are able to scan and send by email a PDF copy of articles and books (up to 20% of the book) that are only available in print format. Please send your requests in writing to biblio@ustpaul.ca.

PaperCut Account

To add money to your PaperCut account, please send an email to cms-msc@ustpaul.ca with your full name and student number.

Group Study Rooms

The group study rooms are unavailable for use until further notice.

Writing Centre

The Writing Centre is providing remote help only. Services are available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Thursday. Please click here for more about the Writing Centre.

Our writing advisor can provide help through:

  • Phone meetings;
  • Email;
  • Zoom and Microsoft Teams virtual meetings.

Please write to writing-redaction@ustpaul.ca with all questions and enquiries.

Ask a Librarian Chat Service

The library offers help through the Ask a Librarian chat service, where students have access to librarians' help in real time through a virtual chat. The link to the service is available on the library’s homepage.

From January 11 to April 30, 2021, the hours for the chat service are as follows:

  • Monday to Thursday: 9 a.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Friday: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.

Please note that the service will be closed January 4, 5, 6, 9, and 10; February 15; and April 2, 2021.

Book Loans

The service desk can no longer accommodate in-person book loans. All loan requests must be sent by email to biblio@ustpaul.ca (Monday-Friday only). Pickup information will be provided on a case-by-case basis.

Please note that alumni cannot borrow books at this time.

Book Renewals

Renewals can no longer be done in person; they must be done online using your library account. To access your library account, visit OMNI and click on the login (located in the top right-hand corner of the screen).

  • For students: Sign in as an internal user and use your uOzone access credentials.
  • For faculty and employees: Sign in as an external user with your @ustpaul.ca email.
  • For alumni: Sign in as an external user with the email you provided to the library.

If you wish to return a book, please use the book return box located outside the library.

Interlibrary Loans

Interlibrary loan is only available for electronic materials (articles, copies, and book chapters). Print materials are not available via interlibrary loan.

We thank you for your patience and cooperation as we adjust to this rapidly evolving situation.

For any other questions, please email biblio@ustpaul.ca.

Please check back here regularly and follow the library's social media accounts for updates.
