Lessons (to Be) Learned from the 2020 Pandemic: How to Use the Internet for Evangelization?

March 10 2021

2:00-3:00 p.m. EST

Dr. Michael-Andreas Nobel, JCD

The session for each webinar will open thirty minutes before the beginning of the webinar. The webinar can be viewed here

The 2020 pandemic led to an increased use of different means of social communication. Christian faithful all over the world continued to rely even more so in these challenging times on the internet and the content offered, whether it be catechetical instruction, live-streamed Masses, or other contents to reach out to people in need. This also led to certain expectations with regards to the amount of material presented, the presentation itself, and the type of content. Due to the complexity of Internet activities, this webinar is limited to the proclamation of the gospel in its various forms in the Internet by ministers of the divine word, and does not focus on general internet activities. Our discussion is not intended to impose restraints on clergy and lay persons and their online activities but rather focusses on the correctness and authenticity of material presented itself. Two main questions are to be considered: What mechanisms are in place to verify the credibility and usability of the content presented, as it may vary? Who is to decide that the content presented is in line with the norms and the magisterial teaching of the Church?
