LEADERSHIP

The complexities of leadership in the world today demand a transformative approach. Leading effectively means responding with wisdom and compassion to diverse and changing contexts. It also involves supporting others as they face their own process of change.

The Leadership Option equips students with critical skills to become effective and self-aware leaders, capable of being present to the needs of others. This training will be of interest to a broad range of employers seeking inclusive leaders and creative team members.

Courses

HUM2110 Foundations of Leadership (3u)

Core theories of leadership and contemporary discussions on the challenges and possibilities of leadership practice in a range of organizational contexts. Value of concepts such as emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence in understanding and establishing sustainable relationships.

HUM2112 Transformative Leadership and Theories of Change (3u)

Process and meaning of change from the viewpoint of transformative leaders and other stakeholders. Capacities of transformative leadership to effect social change and creative solutions in a variety of contexts.

HUM2113 Leadership and Human Development (3u)

Exploration of leadership as an intrapersonal and interpersonal relationship. Introduction to psychological concepts of the dynamics of leadership practice, drawing from a range of cognitive and depth psychological perspectives.

HUM3110 Leadership, Communication and Social Practice (3u)

Practice of leadership in relation to the use of media and technology. Practical examples and case studies of contemporary socio-economic and environmental challenges.

HUM3111 Understanding Diversity in Communities (3u)

Complexity of leadership practice in a multi-stakeholder, multicultural context. Various aspects and possibilities of diversity in the development of community projects.
