Jean La Rose named Saint Paul University’s 2016 Alumnus of the Year

Saint Paul University is proud to present the 2016 Alumnus of the Year Award to Jean La Rose, CEO of the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN). Mr. La Rose obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Social Communication at Saint Paul University in 1978.

Jean La Rose sits on the board of directors of the National Screen Institute, Media Smarts, Mother Earth Recycling and Inspire. He was named Chief Executive Officer of APTN in November 2002. Under his leadership, the network became an official broadcaster of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, carrying over 14 hours per day of events in English, French and eight Aboriginal languages. Preparing APTN for future growth, he has developed APTN into a multi-platform broadcaster that employs more than 150 people nationwide.

“Mr. La Rose is a national leader in the effort to preserve and promote aboriginal cultures and languages. The Alumnus/Alumna of the Year Award is given to a person whose personal values most closely reflect the values and mission of Saint Paul University in the following areas of their life and work: knowledge, spirituality, excellence, understanding, respect, integrity and community. This describes this year’s Alumnus of the Year perfectly. Mr. La Rose’s remarkable body of work and recent successes as the CEO of the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network, in addition to his community involvement and volunteer work, made him a clear choice to receive this honour,” declared Chantal Beauvais, Saint Paul University rector.

This award recognizes the outstanding achievement of one of our alumni. Consideration is given to alumni who have contributed greatly to their community, in their work environment, church and/or society in general, or who have been recognized locally, provincially, nationally or internationally.

We are pleased to present our Alumnus of the Year Award to such a deserving recipient.
