“I am honoured to receive an honorary doctorate from Saint Paul University, an institution I greatly admire,” said Cardinal Lacroix. “I accept this recognition with profound gratitude to my family, the Pius X Secular Institute, and the Archdiocese of Québec, for their role in shaping my personal and spiritual life. I am pleased to serve the Church and humankind, in communion with Pope Francis, at this point in our history.”

“Gérald Cyprien Lacroix is part of the first group of bishops and archbishops called by Pope Francis to serve the Universal Church as cardinals. As such, he brings honour to Canada and the Archdiocese of Québec, the primatial see of the Church in Canada,” declared Mgr. Terrence Prendergast, Archbishop of Ottawa. “I am pleased that Saint Paul University has granted him an honorary doctorate. He richly deserves this recognition from our university.”

“The university community applauds Cardinal Lacroix’s leadership, not only within the Church in Canada but internationally, particularly through his diplomatic work to resolve a delicate situation that threatened the unique and valuable contribution of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru to the global ecosystem of Catholic universities,” said Chantal Beauvais, Rector of Saint Paul University.
