Evening Conference: Sustaining a Perishing Tradition: Roman Catholic Theology in Canada at a Time of Transition

October 30, 2019

7:00 – 8:00 p.m. EST

A recording of this presentation is available here.

Religious communities of women and men have made a significant contribution to Roman Catholic theological education in Canada. As these religious communities face issues of diminishment, they leave behind a vibrant and distinct tradition of “doing theology” from within a culture and context. What is distinct about this tradition and how will it be sustained? And how might the Faculty of Theology at Saint Paul University be seen as representing this tradition and as a beacon for sustaining it?

George Smith, C.S.B., is currently Interim Dean of the Faculty of Theology at Saint Paul University. He served as Superior General of the Basilian Fathers from 2010 to 2018, and as President of St. Thomas More College at the University of Saskatchewan (2000–2010) and of St. Joseph’s College at the University of Alberta (1992–1998).
