Ethics and Extractive Industries: Has Canada Raised the Bar?

In April 2019, after months of consultations and promises to act, Canada’s federal government appointed Ms. Sheri Meyerhoffer as Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise. Civil society organizations were disappointed in the lack of a strong and clear mandate for this office, and in June, resigned from the Minister’s Advisory Committee.

Come to hear from the newly appointed Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise what her mandate will include, and how she will implement it. Understand whether by this mechanism, Canadian extractive industries may (or may not), ensure increased compliance with ethical and environmental norms in their various international activities.
