Ethical dimensions of Extractive industries in Catholic Social Teaching

Laudato Si' calls for a change in the mining practices of modern industries while denouncing violations in human rights, the environment and the non-sustainable and irresponsible approach of today's extractive sectors.

In a cooperative and collaborative approach, the encyclical calls for change to protect the environment and care for the poor. With a more spiritual approach to social justice and this much-needed environmental call, JPIC is organizing a morning of dialogue to talk about the ethical dimensions of extractive industry practices from a Catholic perspective.

Join us for this morning dialogue with Prof. Jim Cooney from University of British Columbia and Rev. Seamus Finn OMI on February 13, 2018, and take the opportunity to reflect on the effects of a lack of a sustainable and social justice approach to the extractive industry, rooted in the encyclicals of Pope Francis on such issues.

When: February 13, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Where: Laframboise Hall (L120)
