Dr. Heather Eaton and her students are in South Africa for an innovative course!

Dr. Heather Eaton and her students are in South Africa for an innovative course: Humans and Other Wild Animals: Ecological and Social Issues in South Africa. This course is about ecological and social challenges in South Africa, with a focus on human–animal relations in an era of ecological stress. South Africa’s animals are threatened with habitat loss, hunting and climate change.

Caroline Neasmith, student of the course: "I'd say the following words encompass the experience of the group so far: eye-opening, emotional, transformative, humbling, enlightening, and deeply spiritual. The content we are learning, the people we are meeting, and the history that encompasses South Africa is exquisite. We are all so deeply appreciative for this unique and life-changing experience that the University and Dr. Eaton have provided us. It truly is transformational."

The group will study with naturalist and animal expert Bennet de Klerk at Motsumi Bush Camp and Pilansberg Game Reserve. They will study South Africa’s historical and current challenges and contributions, and the post-apartheid situation in the Johannesburg area.
