Who We Are

The center, the first of its kind at a Catholic university in North America, was founded by Karlijn Demasure. Her expertise in this field is recognized worldwide. She is a member of numerous task forces and advisory committees on sexual abuse, including a committee on protection at the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB).

From 2021 to 2022, Dr. Marie-Rose Tannous was the Centre's Director. She holds a doctorate in theology and a master's degree in counseling and psychotherapy. She is an adjunct professor at the Faculty of Canon Law and a registered psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. She is committed to center development, academic training and teaching courses and conferences. Both as a psychotherapist and through her clinical experience, she has contributed to the protection of victims. 

Our services

• Training for individuals who work in the church or other settings where vulnerable individuals are potentially exposed to abuse. 
• Prevention through training in church facilities and, if desired, in others (on-site service). Contact us! 
• Supporting the healing of victims/survivors, their families and communities through our network of therapists and complaint centers.
• Information during the period of reinstatement. 
• Basic posts on recent discussion in Church and society about abuse in all its forms. 
• Advanced research in the context of abuse.

Our scientific approach

The Center's interdisciplinary approach reflects the outstanding research capabilities and close collaboration among the University's four faculties: canon law, philosophy, humanities, and theology.
