The Creative Therapies in the Helping Relationship: Psychotherapy and Spiritual Care

Conference Date: March 8-10, 2018

Saint Paul University, Ottawa

We often refer to psychotherapy, counselling, and spiritual care as the “talking” therapies, but there is so much more. The creative therapies and arts can enhance, deepen, and bring feeling and transcendence to all we might say in the helping relationship. This conference offers participants the opportunity to learn different ways in which the creative therapies and arts have expanded the helping relationship. The workshop presentations will offer perspectives from theory, practice, and research, with reference to the use of various expressive arts in the helping relationships.

Date: Thursday, March 8 – Saturday, March 10

Presented by: The Faculty of Human Sciences, Saint Paul University; School of Counselling, Psychotherapy and Spirituality; The Society for Pastoral Counselling Research (SPCR); Chair, Christian Family Studies; Capital Choice Counselling Group (CCCG); and others

Recreating Spaces of Trust with Vulnerable Children and Teens

Youth are our number one resource, yet in Canada, 1 in 5 youth suffers from mental health disorder. Recreating Spaces of Trust with Vulnerable Children and Teens is a 2-day conference that addresses the needs of counsellors, teachers, professionals, and parents to care for young people who may be struggling with mental health issues such as bullying, eating disorders, family discord, dealing with cyberspace, and suicidal ideation, among others. Led by professionals, the lectures and workshops of this conference will share research and guidance in dealing with youth in difficulty and will seek ways to create healthy spaces to deal with and heal issues affecting teenagers and children today.
