Call for Workshop, Poster and Art Expressions Submissions: The Creative Therapies in the Helping Relationship: Psychotherapy and Spiritual Care

This refereed conference theme is The Creative Therapies in the Helping Relationships: Psychotherapy and Spiritual Care. While many think of talk therapies when they think of psychotherapy, counselling, and spiritual care, there are many more ways to express and share beyond words and speaking.The creative therapies and art can enhance, deepen, and access feelings and transcendence in unique ways in the helping relationship. This conference invites presenters to teach and demonstrate ways the creative therapies and arts have expanded the helping relationship. These workshop presentations are expected to present perspectives from theory, practice and research with reference to the use of various creative therapies in different therapeutic approaches in the helping relationships. Workshop presenters are also asked to prepare a scholarly paper, written in a style that is accessible for researchers, clinicians, students, and professionals working in the field of psychotherapy, pastoral counselling, and spiritual care. It is the organizers hope to combine the papers into an edited book.

Guidelines

All workshops, posters and art expressions should focus on new and original work: i.e., the main part of the work should not have been published or presented previously at other conferences.

To facilitate the peer review and planning process, please provide a separate page that includes:

a) title;
b) author’s name and affiliation;
c) author’s mailing address, email address and phone number;
d) audio/visual needs.

In all types of proposals below, names of authors/presenters should not be indicated anywhere except on the separate cover page for the submission.

Workshops: Organizer should submit a 250- to 300-word abstract describing the workshop and, if applicable, a list of the names and affiliations of those participating. Presentations should be 30 minutes in length plus 45 minutes of experiential learning (the presentation of some creative therapy and/or art) and some discussion.

Posters: Submit a 150- to 200-word abstract plus references that contains the major sources that inform your work. Posters can be no larger than 3 x 6 feet.

Art Expressions, on the theme “The Way We Feel,” is a place to present your artwork that relates to the conference theme; you are asked to submit your proposal. Art displays must be no larger than 3 x 3 feet.

Academic Papers: Some people may want to present a paper just for the edited book. You are invited to submit a 250-word abstract plus a list of references that contains the major sources that inform your work.

SPCR is an unaffiliated and registered charitable organization devoted to advancing the practice of Pastoral Care and Counselling. The Society responds to the need for a forum wherein spiritual practitioners may share and exchange experiences and ideas emerging from their work. The goal of these exchanges is to support the development of theoretical models and treatment approaches specific to the pastoral counselling profession. SPCR is for professionals and advanced students who, in their practice, value and address all of a person's experiences, including the biological, psychological, social, interpersonal, and spiritual. A major goal of SPCR is to provide a setting for dialogue and discussion among all conference members.
