Notes on the Speaker

Yvon Muya Cimanga is a doctoral student in conflict studies and has been a part-time professor for the School of Conflict Studies since 2021; notably teaching the course on peaceful resolution of violent conflicts. His doctoral dissertation focuses on debates on ethnicity, ethno-nationalism and citizenship in the Democratic Republic of Congo. His research interests are diverse: political violence, power struggles, social movements, social justice, etc. With more than 15 years of experience in journalism, he has a thorough understanding of political conflicts in the DRC. He dedicates his first book, published on February 2 by Persée and prefaced by Professor Moda Dieng, to the political crisis of the third mandate that resulted, in 2019, in the first peaceful changeover in the history of this country.

On Thursday, April 7, 2022, in room G105 and on Zoom, Yvon Muya Cimanga will present his book. In addition to the variances concerning the control of power, the author will address various issues of the political crisis that has shaken the DRC in recent years. Political governance, social demands and popular revolt, and alternation of power are the topics that will be discussed.
