“Transforming Conflict in Marriage Counseling: The Gottman Method and Insight Approach.”
When: Tuesday, March 31, 2020

Where: Amphitheatre (G1124, Saint Paul University)
In their respective areas, the Gottman method of couple counseling and Insight approach to conflict resolution share a common foundation — the concrete personal and social dimensions of human living. Both grow out of a relentless focus on experience, the verification of insights in practice, the importance of attention to feelings in the discovery of underlying values, and the transformative power of authentic praxis. Given these common foundational elements, the differences present opportunities for cross-fertilization. In this talk I will explore specific ways in which the Gottman method extends the Insight Approach into regions of conflict overdetermined by betrayal, trauma, and comorbidity.
Paul LaChance is a licensed professional counsellor and adjunct professor of Theology at DeSales University, Center Valley, Pennsylvania. Having a long-standing interest in Lonergan Studies, he incorporates principles of General Empirical Method both as a scholar and in his therapeutic work with individuals and couples. He and his wife are in their sixth year of homeschooling their two children.
A wine-and-cheese reception will follow Dr. LacChance’s lecture.
