Accelerated Curriculum for Transfer Pathways Opportunity

Saint Paul University, La Cité and Algonquin College have joined forces to develop a curriculum that will allow students to complete both a college diploma and a university degree in just three years!

Saint Paul University has received funds through the Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT)’s most recent search for innovative curriculum projects to develop a bilingual accelerated curriculum for transfer pathways.

In addition to existing transfer pathways, which allow students to achieve both a college diploma and a university degree within a four-year period, this generous one-year funding will allow Saint Paul University to conduct a feasibility study into the creation of an accelerated curriculum to enable students receiving college-based training in technical media and arts disciplines to complete an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Social Communication (normally a four-year degree) within a shorter time.

It is hoped that the outcomes of the study will result in the creation of several new accelerated curriculum transfer opportunities for students in the 2018–2019 academic year.

Saint Paul University, a bilingual institution, offers undergraduate and graduate study programs. Proud of its rich heritage, over the years Saint Paul University has evolved into an institution whose primary focus is on the multiple facets of the human experience. That priority is reflected in our programs of study: in addition to our founding disciplines of canon law, philosophy, and theology, we offer courses in social communication, social innovation, counselling and psychotherapy, public ethics, conflict studies, and human relations and spirituality.

Founded in 1967, Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology was named after the First Nations people who lived in the area. Algonquin was formed from the merger of the Eastern Ontario Institute of Technology (established 1957) and the Ontario Vocational Centre (established 1965). In 2017, the College celebrates 50 years as a leader in post-secondary education. It has undergone significant growth since its establishment and continues to grow today: all three Algonquin College Campuses have recently completed major expansion projects. The Perth and Pembroke Campuses have built all-new facilities, and the Ottawa Campus now features a new and innovative, award-winning trades building and a first-of-its-kind Student Commons building.

La Cité has been strongly established in the National Capital Region and Eastern Ontario for a quarter of a century. It is the largest French-language college of applied arts and technology in the province. La Cité offers 140 post-secondary programs, and places student achievement high on its list of priorities. In addition to its main campus in Ottawa, La Cité has a business office in Toronto and satellite campuses in Hawkesbury, Alfred, and Orléans (the Centre des métiers Minto-Alphonse-Desjardins, a skilled trades institute with state-of-the-art facilities).

The Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT) was established in 2011 to enhance academic pathways and reduce barriers for students wishing to transfer among its membership of 45 public colleges and universities across the province.
