Abuse of Members of Women’s Religious Institutes

There are many types of abuse and women religious are not immune. In some environments, members of women’s religious institutes are victims of systemised abuse. This abuse, rooted in power, takes different forms – in some places the abuse is sexual while in other places it has to do with labour and compensation practices. Often, these are the external manifestations of the psychological and spiritual abuses being perpetrated.
In this webinar, we will look at the different abuses that women religious have been subjected to and how this awareness can help us break the cycle through a balance of rights and obligations in the exercise of authority.

Biography
Kelly Connors, a Sister of the Presentation of Mary, is currently a member of her Institute’s General Administration located in Castel Gandolfo, Italy. She completed her JCD/PhD in 2011 at St. Paul University, Ottawa, after which she was able to focus full-time on providing support and counsel to members of religious institutes and their leadership teams either directly or through her service in diocesan administration.
