Practice of Worship

Winter 2013 - four Fridays at 9:30 am in the de Mazenod Chapel

Practice of Worship is a series of two-hour seminars on practical liturgics - texts, vestments, music, all the details of putting together a worship service.  We look at the Book of Alternative Services and get to know the various rites, both Eucharistic rites and the various offices (Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, pastoral offices).  We study the lectionary and become familiar with its format and use.  We study Common Praise, the Anglican Church of Canada's hymnal, and get to know its content; we learn how to select hymns for worship, balancing their liturgical function, textual relevance and musical qualities.

That and much more awaits students in Practice of Worship.  These non-credit workshops are required of postulants, highly recommended for students contemplating ordained ministry, and open to all who wish to study the practical details of creating effective and beautiful Anglican worship.
