Ottawa, October 4, 2012– Mr. André Paris, the Chief Librarian at Saint Paul University’s renowned Jean-Léon Allie O.M.I. Library, passed away on September 30, 2012, at the age of 57. He is survived by his wife, Lyne, and by their daughter, Christine and son, René.

André Paris began his career at Saint Paul University as an assistant librarian in 1986; in 2003 he was named Chief Librarian. During his rich and noteworthy 26-year career at Saint Paul University, he played a major role in making the Jean-Léon Allie Library what it is today: a national treasure. The Library’s superior reputation is a direct reflection of Mr. Paris’s passion and dedication to excellence. He was particularly proud of the Library’s unique and pre-eminent collections, with advanced research holdings in the fields of theology, philosophy, Church history, medieval studies and canon law, as well as of the Research Centre for Religious History of Canada – the largest such centre in the country. He spoke highly of his hard-working team and always attributed his own success to their unwavering commitment and devotion to the Library.

He will be remembered as the gatekeeper and soul of the Jean-Léon Allie O.M.I. Library and Archives, and he will be greatly missed by his many colleagues and friends at Saint Paul University and beyond.

André Paris was a long-time member of the American Theological Library Association (ATLA) and a current member of the Board. “André was a respected colleague whose professional contributions and warm friendship will be missed,” the association said in a statement on its website.

Funeral arrangements are being handled through Heritage Funeral Home at 2871 St. Joseph Blvd in Orleans. The wake will be held there on Friday, October 5, 2012, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., as well as on Saturday, October 6, 2012, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 6, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. in the De Mazenod Chapel at Saint Paul University. A memorial service will be held in the coming weeks for the Saint Paul University community.
